In September last year, couple Jade (32) and Kelly (30) Tushingham went to Antalya in Turkey to get new, cheap teeth.
They bitterly regret that, write Manchester Evening News.
The couple now want to warn others.
– Ruined life
The British women had been inspired by friends who had undergone similar operations in Turkey.
– It has been a nightmare. It has ruined our life, says Jade Tushingham to the news website.
After arriving in Antalya, according to the news agency South Wales News Service (SWNS), they shelled out NOK 50,000 to a dentist.
The dentist filed down the teeth – which in the worst case can lead to major nerve damage and constant pain.
Died after teaspoon mistake
Big consequences
Dagbladet has previously spoken to oral surgeon Shoresh Afnan, who has told that filing down can have major consequences afterwards.
– … such as an odd bite, infections, the teeth can break, he said, and pointed out that dental crowns – regardless of quality – last a maximum of 15-20 years before they need to be replaced.
– Constant pain
For five hours, Kelly and Jade Tushingham had to sit with what they call “shark teeth” before they had temporary shell veneers fitted.
They say the filing led to immense pain, which has only continued and continued.
Now, four months later, they are still struggling.
– We are in constant pain, the couple say.
Too bad for food
The couple were told they had to wear the temporary veneers for five days before the permanent veneers could be fitted.
The 30- and 32-year-olds had envisioned a pleasant beach holiday while they waited.
It didn’t turn out that way.
– The food at the hotel looked delicious, but we couldn’t eat anything, says Jade Tushingham.
Shocked after 30 years: – Got nervous
Bloody affair
Tushingham says that all they managed to eat was mashed potatoes and soup.
– It was even difficult to drink, as our teeth were so sensitive. Looking back, with one hundred percent certainty we would not have done this.
When five days had passed, the couple went back to the clinic to get permanent veneers.
– There was blood all over, she says.
– Hell
The couple say they are very happy with how the teeth turned out – but that the pain is not worth it.
– It has cost a lot of money. It’s been hell. We used our savings. The teeth look lovely, and in pictures they look perfect, but it’s a nightmare.
Will not touch the teeth
The Manchester Evening News writes that no dentist in Great Britain dares to touch the couple’s filed teeth.
This could lead to the couple being forced to return to Turkey.
The hope is to find a dentist who can help them with the nerve pain.
– People ask us all the time about where we fixed their teeth, because they want to do the same. We always say, “No, don’t do that.” We would not recommend this to anyone, says Jade.
