Muvatupuzha: The canal collapsed at Pandapilli, Muvatupuzha. The side wall of the water-filled canal collapsed to a depth of 15 feet.
Yesterday evening, the sub-canal of the canal which is part of the Muvatupuzha Irrigation Valley Project collapsed. The accident happened shortly after a vehicle passed on the road near the canal.
Following the surge of water, the Muvatupuzha-Koothattukulam link road was blocked by mud and stones. It flowed through the yard of the house on the opposite side of the road. Traffic has been restored as a result of the efforts made by the fire brigade and locals.
It is a canal that brings water from Malankara Dam for agriculture. A similar canal collapsed in this area 15 years ago.
