Authorities have identified a suspect in the mass shooting at the Lunar New Year festival in Monterai Park, California, who is still at large. The sheriff has released a photo of the suspect in the incident.
Reporting from CNN, Monday (23/1/2022), the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has released photos of the suspects in the mass shooting in Monterey Park.
Sheriff Robert Luna tweeted a photo of the man and noted that investigators identified him as a murder suspect who should be deemed “armed and dangerous.”
Name of suspect not announced
The sheriff explained why his department had not released the suspect’s name. Meanwhile law enforcement officials have released a photo of the suspect.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff declined to be named publicly at a news conference Sunday afternoon.
Asked by reporters why he didn’t share the man’s name, Sheriff Robert Luna explained.
“The priority is to catch this person. And we have a lot of resources across this area, and we believe if we name him, it will hinder our ability to potentially arrest a suspect if he’s out there – or maybe on the run,” he said.
“Please be patient with us,” continued Luna.
“We will keep our promise that we will keep you updated. Because the community, I get it, they are hungry for information,” he said.
Luna said the photo was released because, “from a public safety perspective, we wanted people to see who this was, and then give us any information they might have about his whereabouts.”
