Galab Donev prime minister at least until May, but Radev changes several in the government (Obzor)

  • He becomes an absolute record holder at the head of official power, and by the time the 5th cabinet of the president is appointed, he will already have 500 days in the Cabinet of Ministers in total with his experience as a minister
  • Pekanov again vice prime minister, the others are still waiting for a conversation about whether to continue

Galab Donev remains Prime Minister at least until May, when the next National Assembly could nominate a regular cabinet at the earliest.

The next caretaker prime minister will be the old caretaker prime minister, whose name is Galab Donev.

Not for a second I didn’t allow it other options,

President Rumen Radev said.

Thus, for the time being, the expectation of a new career for Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov, around whom rumors swirled, that he could first head the next cabinet, and then – a future political project enjoying the trust of the head of state, ends.

“The president cares very much about the people of his team”, are categorically close to Rumen Radev, who did not doubt for a moment that the excellent ones in his office, led by Prime Minister Galab Donev, will again be nominated for the same posts.

With his calm speaking and the rare quality of not asserting himself while diligently rejecting his tasks, Donev is definitely among the excellent ones, rated at “Dondukov” 2.

He will not only become an absolute record holder among serving prime ministers in our country with his 174 days in office so far and the expected (at least) around 100 more, but also ranks among the managers with a solid experience in the executive power – longer than that of many participants in regular offices. Before heading the presidential government on August 2 of this year, Donev was social minister 3 times in Radev’s previous offices (headed by Ognyan Gerdzhikov and Stefan Yanev) – a total of 312 days. Thus, by the date of the decree by which Rumen Radev will appoint his fifth cabinet (also an absolute record in our recent history), he will have nearly 500 days of experience in the Ministry of Defense. Separately, before that he was deputy minister.

For comparison, Stefan Yanev spent 127 days in his first term as caretaker prime minister, and another 88 days at the head of his second cabinet, or a total of 215 days of “Dondukov” 1.

Otherwise, Galab Donev himself joked about the option of the young Deputy Prime Minister Pekanov becoming the incumbent – at the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, Atanasov Den wished him “regardless of whether he is Deputy Prime Minister or Prime Minister” to be healthy and to protect his name from commentators.

In an interview with “Darik” over the weekend, the president also confirmed that Pekanov remains the vice for managing European funds.

Only a few of the names of the current caretaker ministers will be new, say people familiar with the talks that are already underway. So far, units of the current service managers have been notified whether they are continuing, our sources say.

I haven’t received an invitation yet, announced economist Nikola Stoyanov, reporting on Sunday what his team had done. But he clarified that if his conversation with the president is “positive” and he receives an invitation to the next cabinet, he will accept it.

The Minister of Innovation and Growth Alexander Pulev also said that he has not yet held talks about staying, but is ready to accept if such an offer is made to him.

However, it is expected that the Minister of Culture will not receive any more invitations

Velislav Minekov

Apart from culture, certain changes could be expected in education as well.

At the government’s report last Thursday, the young tourism minister Ilin Dimitrov himself admitted that he failed to unite the industry, and some immediately read this as a sign that he was not continuing.

The dissolution of parliament and the scheduling of extraordinary elections are done by one presidential decree, and the appointment of a caretaker government by another.

I will make final consultations with my legal team, February is a special month, according to the constitution, the elections must be held within 2 months after the dissolution of the parliament.

No way I do not want anymore to slow things down

It is clear that we must have a regular government as soon as possible, Radev said succinctly. It also depends on when paper can be provided for the machine ballots, the president explained.

There is no Radev model, there is a constitution. Nobody obviously wants to govern during severe crises, so as not to lose credibility, so as not to lose the electorate, and everything is left in the hands of the caretaker government and of course – the president, who must be responsible for everything, he also commented in his extensive interview on the anniversary of “Darik”. Regarding the laws rejected by the parliament on the recovery plan, the euro and Schengen, he added: Pity for all the efforts of the caretaker government, including my own. For the first time in 11 years, we will receive recognition from all European institutions, from our European partners, with a clear date for Schengen already set – the goal is October this year. There is very little left to do.

He again criticized the position on Ukraine with the thesis that “giving arms means putting out the fire with gasoline, agreeing that there will be many more victims and accepting the position that the war must be fought until the complete collapse of one side, which is gradually pushing us towards a global conflict with the possibility of nuclear self-destruction”.

Radev also explained why he did not give the mandate to DB – they were hesitant and remained silent on GERB’s offer to form a government. “Bulgarski Vozhod” was still looking for a face, while the BSP really changed.
