Greece scrambled two F-16 fighter jets to escort the Ryanair plane as it entered Greek airspace from North Macedonia.
Before that, it was accompanied by Hungarian fighter jets, a source in the Greek Ministry of Defense told the AFP news agency.
The plane landed in an isolated area at the Athens International Airport shortly after 18:00 Latvian time.
“The passengers have disembarked and are being checked,” a Greek police spokeswoman told AFP, adding that the plane would then be searched.
She said the pilot notified the Athens control tower about the possible bomb, but it is not yet clear where the information came from.
