L’Toulouse Opera, which was born more than three centuries ago, is one of the most emblematic places in the Pink City. How about some go behind the scenes and dive on the other side of the mirror, in the heart of this high place of lyrical art and dance?

This is what the tourism office of Toulouse, which organizes four guided tours called “Raise the curtain at Capitol Theater ». Discover everything that you don’t see, but that you imagine, when you attend a performance, and much more: the heritage, the sets, the costumes, the stage techniques and all the “little hands” of these artists and craftsmen who make singers and dancers shine.

Four scheduled visits to Toulouse

How do musicians regain their space? Where are the singers, the dancers and dancers waiting when they are not on stage and waiting for their moment to rush in front of the public? These visits will take place on monday january 23 (commentary from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.); Saturday February 4 and Monday February 20 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and finally Sunday March 12 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Go through the artists’ entrance!

They will allow lovers of shows to realize their dream: strolling “backstage”; not exactly behind the scenes for obvious security reasons but behind the stage and there, following in the footsteps of a guide-lecturer approved by the Toulouse tourist office, smell the sweat and make-up, velvet and wood, observe stagehands from a distance, watch them hoist, carry, dismantle parts of the set, discover the history of the theatre. You will walk through the corridors and floors usually reserved for professionals, from the artists’ entrance, which will, for once, be that of visitors.

In the skin of an artist (or almost)

As soon as you cross the threshold, you can for a moment imagine yourself in the shoes of one of the countless prestigious artists who have played here and, like them, take the same path to the reception hall, to the foyers, climb to paradise (that of the hall, of course), then descend to the balcony and the floor. At each stage, its surprises and magnificent views of the mythical horseshoe room.

Did you know that it takes a week of work to make just one real hair wig? The guide will share with you dozens of anecdotes about the life of a Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse known and admired throughout the world.
