The mountain of solitudes is one of Carlo Grenzi realized short film. It dates from 1970 and was filmed in several places in South Tyrol – especially in Val Badia – and shows, after a “spectacular” intro with the mountain rescue service during an avalanche operation, everyday mountain farming life in the 1970s, shots of tourism and alpinism, as well as school scenes Children returning to the farm from school by sled. You can also see scenes with hay sleds that drive down the Reschenpass.
Shot in 8mm format, the filmmaker wanted Grenzi “capturing the hard life on the mountain farms of the rural population, the life of the children who, unlike their contemporaries living in the cities, often had to do without playing.” His film with soundtrack is one of four episodes of a documentary film series that Grenzi structured according to the four seasons. The mountain of solitudes is the first part and shows the rural work and everyday life in winter.
