This week it became clear that the government is proposing to extend the electricity subsidy. In the past, Norwegians have only received electricity support for year-round homes, holiday homes have not been covered by the scheme. There may be a change in that now.
With the exception of those who moved in 2022, people who live permanently in the cottage may now be entitled to the same electricity subsidy as other households. This applies to approximately 10,000 Norwegians.
In Sarpsborg, on the other hand, there are not many people who can be happy about the electricity subsidy change. It is not allowed to live permanently in the cabin throughout the year.
Must apply
In order to be able to live permanently at the cabin in Sarpsborg, you must apply for a change of use from a holiday home to a year-round home.
– Such a change of use will most often trigger an application for a dispensation – as new homes are not permitted in the areas where the holiday homes are located. It is only in Kvastebyen that a change of use can be considered without dispensation processing, Sarpsborg municipality states on its website.
In order to get a change of use approved, the leisure property must also meet the same technical requirements as apply to housing.
– As a general rule, it cannot be expected to get a dispensation for a change of use from a holiday home to a year-round home. If such a permit is obtained within the coastal zone, however, the residence obligation will kick in.
