More than 40,000 doses of the Cuban Abdala vaccine have been applied in Baja California since the arrival of the biological in December of last year, confirmed the Secretary of State Health, Adrián Medina Amarillas.

This corresponds to just over 38% of the 104,600 vaccines that arrived in the State, which continue to be applied to adults over 60 years of age, vulnerable populations (pregnant women, people with chronic diseases), first responders, and Health personnel.

“In these two and a half weeks, almost three weeks, we have been able to apply more than 40 thousand vaccines, this translates into an adequate response from the population; We have managed to maintain control of the Covid”

During the last two weeks, a reduction in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state has been reported, going from 805 active cases on January 3 to 567 active cases at the cutoff of January 18, the latest update from the Ministry of Health.

According to the state official, during the rest of the winter season the booster vaccination campaign for older adults will continue, and it will be analyzed whether it is opened to other sectors of the population.

“We are going to raise it, right now the offer is open for this population group because it is the one with the highest risk, the truth is that the percentage of the general population that we have protected with the previous doses is adequate”

Medina Amarillas insisted that the Abdala vaccine is safe and complies with all the guidelines of the Federal Commission Against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) for its application in Mexico.

He also clarified that the arrival of vaccines from other companies is not expected soon, since no agreements have been reached with any other laboratory.
