The vaccine is especially important for risk groups, such as people with chronic diseases such as asthma and other chronic lung disorders, cardiovascular disease (except isolated hypertension), kidney disease, liver damage, cancer, diabetes mellitus, and people immunosuppressed by any cause, including medicines or the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

It was reported that since October 2022, when the reagents were available, to this day, 91 percent of the more than 2.5 million doses assigned to Jalisco have been applied. However, there is still a vaccine and an opportunity to get vaccinated.

Complications, hospitalizations, and deaths from influenza are commonly reported in unvaccinated people.

The first death of 2023 due to influenza corresponds to a 68-year-old woman, a resident of the municipality of Zapopan, who as a history of risk suffered from diabetes, COPD, hypertension and obesity. The patient was not vaccinated. With this case, the number of deaths from influenza since last October is eleven.

A total of 2 million 369 thousand 350 vaccines have been applied by the various institutions of the Health Sector throughout the state. The vaccine is free and is applied in health centers of the Government of Jalisco and in medical units of the IMSS and ISSSTE.
