I have a Wii U, a Switch, and a Steam Deck. I have BoTW for the Wii U and the Switch, and I run it on my Steam Deck (easy to run mods), and yes, I can do my own backups on both the Wii U and Switch, I even have the gear because for the SNES and N64 still to do, tweaking Nintendo consoles was a big hobby of mine (even the Virtual Boy couldn’t escape it). To say that that game runs better via Steam Deck emulation than on the Switch is a bit short-sighted. You can get a better frame rate on the Steam Deck if you graphically/functionally limit the graphics at certain points. And then you emulate the Wii U version (which is easier to emulate than the Switch version), which natively was already a notch behind the Switch version in terms of graphics.
Furthermore, it is very subjective whether the Switch hardware is scanty or not today. Well, the Witcher III is indeed a good example of the fact that the hardware has its limitations, games are still being released for it that can compete well with the AAA offer for the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X. Given the 6-year-old Switch, which has hardly been reduced in price since release, was the best-selling console almost every week in the past year, I wonder whether the PS5 and new Xboxes are not a bit scant. Apparently they don’t have as much new to offer as the Switch does. I also enjoyed playing on the new generation with friends, but it did not convince me at all to upgrade my Xbox One. But maybe I’m not the target audience, for me new gameplay options through more ram / better cpu are more important than going from 30 to 60fps. Not that I don’t enjoy graphic splendor, but I personally prefer watching movies and series for that.
