Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Competition for online food delivery services in society is getting tougher. At home, namely Indonesia, Gojek is still number two in terms of market share or market share.
This was revealed in a report released by Momentum Works entitled Food Delivery Platform in Southeast Asia (SEA) January 2023.
In the report, total gross merchandise value (GMV) for food delivery in Indonesia reached US$ 4.5 billion or around Rp. 67.8 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 15,075/US$) for a year. This figure is the highest of the total GMV in the Southeast Asia region which amounted to US$ 16.3 billion or around Rp 245.7 trillion.
Grab is still the master of food delivery services with market share 49% in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Gojek is in second place with market share 44%. Then, there is Shopee Food with market share 7%.
Indonesia is the largest market for food delivery services in Southeast Asia, along with Thailand and Singapore. Nonetheless, all of them recorded a total decrease in GMV in 2022 due to factors that differed in each country.
For example, Singapore’s reopening shifted the demand for food services back to offline. Meanwhile in Thailand, the withdrawal of government subsidies after October as well as floods in the second half of 2022 played an important role.
Grab also controls the two largest markets in Southeast Asia, namely Thailand with a total GMV of US$3.6 billion or around Rpc54.2 trillion and dominates 51% of the market. Then followed by Line Man and Food Panda 24% and 16% respectively.
In Singapore, Grab controls 59% market share, followed by Food Panda and Deliveroo. 31% and 10% respectively.
Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam are the three smallest markets in Southeast Asia when it comes to online food delivery. However, both countries have recorded significant growth with Grab and Shopee Food expanding penetration.
