INDOPOS.CO.ID – Directorate of Immunization Management of the Ministry of Health Prima Yosephine stated, most of the findings of measles cases in 2022 have never been immunized. Although some have been immunized, it is not complete.
Throughout 2022 there were 3,341 cases of measles reported in 31 provinces in Indonesia. That number has increased 32 times compared to 2021.
“The complete (immunization) is only a small part. While some we also don’t know about their immunization status,” said Prima in his statement, Jakarta, Saturday (21/1/2023).
Some parents don’t even want their child’s immunization records. “Maybe the mother forgot to keep a record of her child’s immunization history or maybe the mother. They also don’t remember what immunizations the child has received,” said Prima.
According to him, the increase in cases of measles in 2022 is due to the 2020 and 2021 immunization coverage that cannot reach the target for routine immunization services.
“So that children are piling up who are not immunized and this will facilitate the transmission of measles so that outbreaks occur in several areas,” said Prima.
Therefore, immunization is a preventive measure, as well as protection for children from dangerous diseases.
The Ministry of Health’s report stated that the coverage of complete basic immunization in infants had decreased in participants to 84 percent of the immunization target of 92 percent.
The symptoms of measles disease are high fever, reddish spots on the skin (rash) accompanied by cough and/or runny nose and/or conjunctivitis which can lead to complications in the form of pneumonia, diarrhea, meningitis and can even cause death.(and)
