Frankfurt am Main (SID) – Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg has to pay a whopping fine of 163,350 euros because of unsportsmanlike behavior by its fans. The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) sentenced the Lower Saxony after supporters of the Wolves ignited Bengal fire and shot flares towards the pitch before, during and after the DFB Cup match at Eintracht Braunschweig in October.
The kick-off of the second round duel, which Wolfsburg won 2-1, was delayed by almost two minutes. Of the sum, VfL can use 54,450 euros for security and violence prevention measures. The club agreed to the verdict, which is now final.
The second division teams Hansa Rostock and Karlsruher SC also have to dig deep into their pockets. The north Germans have to pay 89,680 euros for three cases of unsportsmanlike behavior by their fans. The Hansa supporters had detonated pyrotechnic objects in the league games at SpVgg Greuther Fürth and against 1. FC Nuremberg. At the home game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, they discriminated against guest player Terrence Boyd.
The KSC was fined 52,200 euros. Spectators had burned pyrotechnic objects in the DFB Cup game at SV Sandhausen and in the league game in Kaiserslautern. Rostock and Karlsruhe both agreed to the verdicts.
