The members of the association “Sixth” have only recently graduated from the Latvian Academy of Culture, so together with the movement director Elīna Gediņa, in the production they think about the unanswered and unanswerable questions, the doubts that arise when growing up from the safe, error-forgiving student status, as well as about the fear that takes over when in an environment where each artist’s success is in their own hands.
“The director is aware that the confusion of young dancers is natural and even necessary, that it is as normal a reaction to change as the excitement of breath when jumping into cold water. It is normal to be confused in front of new circumstances, the next action is important,” explained the description of the show. “Remember me” tells about an illusion that promises that when you achieve your imagined goals, you will finally be able to live fully and meaningfully, however, it turns out that the expected feeling is quite different from the imagined one.
How to come to terms with this experience and understand that it is normal to be disappointed, to doubt, to worry about what others think and to ask yourself – am I in my right place? Everyone experiences these anxieties, and they return at critical points later in life. It is important to realize that there is no single answer, because after all, living is a process.”
When creating the structure of the performance, Gediņš offers the dancers Josif Brodski’s Uzuruna for the graduates of Darmouth in 1989. In his speech, Brodsky claims that a large part of what awaits graduates will be caused by boredom, and recommends not to avoid it, but on the contrary – to plunge into it, reach the bottom, open as a window to time, the infinity of time, thus pointing to the insignificance of man in it .
Together with Elīna Gediņa, members of the “Sixth” association Simona Ozola, Āirts Dubults, Marħers Vanags, Katrīna Stepiņa, Līva Apšeniets, Vladimirs Goršantovs, Roberta Gailīte, Kitija Geidāne, Marija Saveiko and Oskars Moore, as well as the team of “Dirty Deal Teatro” are working on the show. – Elīna Pērkone (costumes), Viesturs Balodis (sound) and Andris Landaus (lights). The performance was made with the support of the State Cultural Capital Fund.
