Several young talents were in with a chance of winning the Annual Prize for Neuromuscular Diseases of the Princess Beatrix Spierfonds. Only the entries with a recommendation from their own center had a chance of winning this important prize for them. This prize is awarded annually by the Spierfonds to a young talented researcher who has conducted excellent research into muscle diseases in the Netherlands. After all, there is little more motivating than winning an award as the crowning glory of your work. Or as Dr Ellen Sterrenburg, general director of the Spierfonds, puts it: “Recognition can help a young researcher with the next steps – besides of course giving a huge boost to self-confidence and serving as a business card. In this way we want to encourage young researchers to stay in the field of muscle diseases.”
