Ata Luguz exhibition “Portraits of women”

“As a child, I thought painting was a boring activity. At the Valka Art School, drawing glass bottles, metal bowls and plaster heads was not exciting and was pure torture.
30 years later, in 2016, I happened to be at a large contemporary art exhibition “Affordable Art Fair” in Stockholm, where what I saw fascinated and inspired me. When I returned home, I tried to paint the first portrait.
Painting portraits is a challenge for me, will I be able to show everything correctly. Will the eyes smile at the same time as the mouth and not look weird, as often happens when people try to portray a smiling person. At the exhibition in Liepāja, I want to pay more attention to the portrait of Aria of Embūte. Everyone has heard the name of Rainis’ play “Indulis and Āria”. However, not everyone knows that Arya was the beauty of the crusaders, because of which the Curse leader Indulis concluded an alliance with the Livonian Order. Together with whom they defeated the Lithuanians in the battle of Embūte in 1244.”
