A sports club from Gröpelingen supports the homeless

Tura Bremen has already been awarded the “Big Star of Sports” in silver for its commitment. Now the club in Berlin can also hope for the golden variant.

Tura Bremen has a lot to offer. At the sports club from Gröpelingen you can play badminton, football or volleyball, do gymnastics, boxing and go with the dragon boat. However, Tura not only stands for sociable sports, but also for social commitment. Last fall, the club collected clothing for the homeless from its members.

This whole consumer behavior annoys me endlessly. Then I thought that there is certainly a target group that doesn’t focus on that in their lives. Then I thought about homeless people because it was cold and uncomfortable outside.

Alex Hartung, Managing Director of Tura Bremen

Distribution by the Bremer Suppengel

Hartung found that the power of the sports club could help the homeless. After all, Tura has more than 2,000 members. And they often have clothes in their closet that are still completely intact but are no longer used. That’s why the club started the collection campaign in October under the slogan “No Black Friday – we collect for homeless people in Bremen”, in which 90 sacks full of trousers, sweaters and blankets came together. Tura gave this to the Bremer Suppengel, which in turn took care of the distribution to people in need.

“It was a huge surprise,” says Peter Valtink, Managing Director of Bremer Suppengel, in an interview with buten un binnen. After the items of clothing had been sorted, they could finally be handed over. Hartung, on the other hand, is also pleased that the club slogan “One club – one community” was clearly felt during the campaign. “It was a community, a team.”

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier honors

In November, Tura Bremen was also able to celebrate the “Big Star of Sports” in silver. The prize is endowed with 2,500 euros. As Bremen’s representative, the club can now also hope for the “big star of sport” in gold and prize money of 10,000 euros at the national final in Berlin on January 23. The winners will be selected by an expert jury. Among others, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and DOSB President Thomas Weikert will take part in the ceremony.
