Inside the church complex there is a prison used by married couples. Just like today, medieval married couples used to have problems such as quarrels, infidelities, and ended up wanting a divorce. The church realized that it had a role to play in keeping the villagers under the old Christian order. Therefore, the church came up with an ingenious solution, imprisoning the troubled couple until they sort things out. (iStock)
