The German war movie All Quiet on the Western Front – also known as nothing new in the West – is the top contender at the upcoming edition of the BAFTAs. The Netflix film garnered 14 nominations for major British film awards, tying the record for a non-English language film.
All Quiet on the Western Front has a chance at the award ceremony on 19 February in the categories of best film and best director, among others. Only the Chinese movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was nominated just as many times in 2001.
Other films topping the nomination list are The Banshees of Inisherin in Everything Everywhere All at Once, both of which have a chance in ten categories. The film Elvis garnered nine nominations.

In the men’s it’s between Austin Butler (Elvis), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande), Paul Mescal (After sun) a Bill Nighy (Living).
The makers of the Belgian-Dutch film Close missed a nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The drama, directed by the Belgian Lukas Dhont, was on the longlist. All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the five contenders.
