Premier League: Leeds game Gnonto wreaked havoc against Cardiff City in the FA Cup

HOW TO CELEBRATE: Wilfried Gnonto after sending Leeds into the lead at home at Elland Road against Cardiff City.

(Leeds – Cardiff 5−2) Leeds’ Italian youngster Wilfried Gnonto (19) has involuntarily become the center of a spicy supporters’ song. On Wednesday, he let his feet do the talking.

Gnonto’s two beautiful goals in the cup match against Cardiff on Wednesday night gave a more desired form of attention than what the 19-year-old has had to endure recently.

He followed up with two pearl goals, and the first in particular was a real dream hit:

Gnonto has become a favorite with Leeds fans. On January 4, the Italian scored his first goal for the Yorkshire club, and the fans responded by making a rather special tribute out of a song lyric.

To the rhythm of Los Lobos’ hit “La Bamba”, the fans chant first that “Willy Gnonto, Willy Gnonto, he eats spaghetti”, and then that “he drinks Moretti”. So far a fairly innocent, if somewhat generic, description of the Italian. The song’s third bull line, on the other hand, has made the Leeds leadership stiff.

It refers to the player’s noble parts.

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch eventually stepped in and asked the fans to change the lyrics.

– It is possible to be more respectful, and respectful towards Willy, Marsch told the Daily Mail after Leeds’ meeting with Aston Villa a week ago.

– Our fans are great, they show passion and want the team to be successful. I love that they love Willy, but it is possible to modify it to be passionate but respectful, the club then wrote in a statement on Twitter.

There must have been an agreement to replace the stanza line with “He plays for United”, but in the matches that were played afterwards it became clear that the original version has gained more footing than that.

Then the fans once again sang about the 19-year-old’s noble parts.

Gnonto himself, however, does not seem to be negatively influenced, at least not sportingly. He was very good when Cardiff were beaten 5-2 in the FA Cup on Wednesday night, where he contributed two goals.

Gnonto has eight international matches for Italy, and on 14 June this year he scored his first national team goal against Germany. He then became the youngest goalscorer in Italy’s history, aged 18 years and 222 days. After that he announced a transfer from Zurich to Leeds and the Premier League.
