The smartphone market has long been dominated by Samsung, followed by Apple. This is a situation that has changed only sporadically and that clearly reflects the difference in sales volume that these two companies have.
With 2022 already over, now is the time to see how the market has behaved throughout the year. It is clear that there is a slowdown in sales and that Samsung has dominated the market, but with one important exception. Apple grew at the end of the year and was the brand that sold the most smartphones.
Smartphone market continues to slow down
It has not been easy to keep up with the smartphone market and the sales levels that brands have shown. After a long time with constant breaks, as a result of all the problems that arose, it seemed to want to recover and reach levels close to the past.
That's not the truth that we have now, with a high loss. Samsung continued in its top position, with complete control of the market for most of the year. This gave the company a growth of 2% compared to last year.
Domination of 2022 remains for Samsung
Seconding the Korean brand is the usual presence of Apple, which also grew by the same 2% compared to the previous year. The result of the growth of these 2 companies comes as a result of the slowdown in sales of several Chinese brands, such as Xiaomi, OPPO and others.
Although the year was dominated by Samsung, it should be noted that at the end of 2022 there was a change. Apple, as in previous years, ended up dominating sales in the last quarter of the year, a position that it should not be able to maintain due to the arrival of the Galaxy S23 within days.
Sales drop may continue into 2023
Even with this scenario of growth, 2022 was not entirely positive in general. Worldwide smartphone shipments fell 17% over the year and also in the fourth quarter of 2022. Year-end figures dropped 11% to less than 1.2 billion, reflecting an extremely challenging period for all brands.
2023 will be a difficult year for smartphone manufacturers and the market. Analysts expect that most manufacturers will focus on retaining their market positions. For this, it is expected that new equipment models will emerge, especially from Samsung and Apple, which will try to captivate users.
