REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOYOLALI — Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) has the potential to spread during the rainy season. In the area of Boyolali Regency, Central Java, there have been nine cases of DHF as of January 17 2013.
“During the rainy season, a number of diseases, including dengue fever, usually appear in Boyolali. Until January 17, 2023, nine cases of dengue fever have been found,” said the Head of the Boyolali District Health Office Dr. Puji Astuti in Boyolali, Thursday (19/1/2023).
Of the nine patients in Boyolali, there were seven cases of DHF and two cases of Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS) or two cases of death. The DHF cases are spread across four sub-districts in Boyolali.
Among others, there were two cases in Teras, four cases in Andong, two cases in Juwangi, and one case in Wonosamodro. The number of dengue cases in January this year was lower than in 2022 with the same period of 41 cases.
Also lower than December 2022 of 23 cases. “Two cases of dengue fever died, one case in Andong District, a 24-year-old woman and the other in Boyolali District, a 1.5-year-old boy,” he said.
He said, DHF is an infectious disease caused by the Dengue virus and transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito found in tropical areas, such as Indonesia, including Boyolali.
However, the Health Office has carried out intensive monitoring of DHF cases in transmission areas by conducting epidemiological examination (PE) first.
If there is a suspicion that the transmission is in the area, then fumigation is carried out. If the fumigation standards have not been met, a movement to clean the environment and eradicate mosquito nests (PSN) is carried out.
According to him, PSN’s activities include abatement, environmental hygiene movement. So not all DHF cases have to be fogging (fumigation-ed).
“We urge the public to better prevent dengue by cleaning their respective environments and the PSN movement to anticipate the spread of dengue cases in the area,” he said.
In addition, the Health Office also appealed to the public to be aware of other diseases during the rainy season, such as diseases of the respiratory tract and digestive tract.
There is a possibility of an attack of ARI or asthma then diarrhea which is usually still a disease, maybe the cases will increase.
