The Italian super cup was a Milanese robbery between Internazionale and AC Milan, won by the black and blue. Far from home, in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, Inter conquered the Supercopa after a convincing 3-0 win. The cup winner thus defeated last season’s national champion.
The joy of the energetic Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was great. For AC Milan it is a painful blow. Because although they are second with one point ahead of Inter, prolongation of the league title is a long way off, as Napoli has a nine-point gap in the league.
In Saudi Arabia, a prize was up for grabs, but AC Milan had little to say throughout the match. From minute one, the game had a high pace and up and down undulating play, in which Internazionale never really got into trouble.
Inter defender Denzel Dumfries remained on the bench for the entire match. His colleague Stefan de Vrij was allowed to participate in the last ten minutes.
Dzeko man of the match
The pressure that Inter put on the city rivals’ goal in the first half was enormous. Already after ten minutes, Federico Dimarco completed a smooth attack, after Nicolo Barella was allowed through on the edge of offside and passed in one go.
Edin Dzeko, the man of the match, was also sent down ten minutes later, cut Sandro Tonali in a childish way and cleverly placed the ball in the far corner.
Just like before the break, AC Milan had more of the ball after the break. And although it came a little closer to the enemy goal after the break, the lead was never really in danger for Internazionale.
In the final phase, the Argentinian striker Lautaro Martinez, who escaped attention, hit the ball with the outside right into the far corner and thus decided the battle for the Italian super cup more than four thousand kilometers from home.
