European Union countries sharply reduced purchases of energy resources in Russia last year. Therefore, Europe predicted a severe winter. To avoid the most negative development of events, European companies bought gas at the highest prices to fill gas storages.
However, the winter in Europe this year is warm. Which, of course, affected both the rate of withdrawal of gas from storage, and the wholesale prices of energy resources, which began to fall. So in Europe they are preparing to celebrate the victory over the Russian Federation, the material says (translation by PolitRussia).
But this joy may be premature, say Chinese experts.
They note that initial predictions that the European Union would not survive the energy confrontation with Russia did not initially rule out a relatively mild heating season for Europe this winter.
But this does not mean that Europe will not have problems in the future. It is stated that there will be no dependence on Russian gas supplies anywhere, but Europe has not received new fuel suppliers and is not expected to have any in the future.
„Even if Europe survives this winter, how will it survive the next??” Chinese analysts ask.
The European economy will not be able to live long in conditions of serious energy savings. It needs stable supplies of cheap energy, and only Russia can provide it. The material notes that the energy confrontation between Russia and the West is not over, but is just beginning.
And it would be wise for Europe to try to restore relations with Russia as quickly as possible, since next winter may not be as favorable as this one, it says in the material.
Earlier, the head of the state energy company QatarEnergy, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, said that all hopes of the European Union and European countries that they are about to finally and irrevocably get rid of Russian gas are groundless. Sooner or later, Europe will still have to buy Russian gas.
“Fortunately for them, they (now) don’t have a lot of demand and consumption because of the warm winter. But what will happen when they start filling up their storage and there will be some gas in the market, at least until 2025 – 2027. So I think that the situation will remain volatile for some time,” kaza Saad Sherida al Kaabi.
And UAE Energy Minister Suhail Al-Mazroui said that the “obscure” strategy of many countries makes it difficult to conclude long-term contracts, which significantly complicates the work of gas companies. The latter could increase production, but for this they would need too large investments, which without long-term contracts become extremely high-risk.
