Currently, Apple is developing a display screen with microLED technology. This technology is planned to be present on the iPhone, iPad and Mac in the future.
From a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple has been developing microLED technology for 6 years. This project started in 2017 with the aim of replacing displays that are already available from Apple partners.
So we can conclude that this will be the first display designed by Apple itself, using Apple Silicon chips. Gurman previously reported this microLED display would debut on the next-generation Apple Watch Ultra in 2024.
After the presence of the Apple Watch Ultra, Gurman predicts that Apple will use microLED displays on the iPhone, followed by the iPad and Mac. But for the Mac itself it will likely take about a decade.

Gurman explained that microLED displays will provide many advantages such as a brighter screen, better colors and can be seen from any angle.
“They (microLEDs) make images look like they were painted on the glass of the device and are quite an amazing technological achievement,” said Gurman, as quoted by Bloomberg, Monday (16/1/2023).
MicroLED displays use very small light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for the backlight used by the display. The LED size is much smaller than the mini-LED technology used by the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
