The American icon is electrified – Today’s PS

Even the most iconic sports cars eventually need to adapt and embrace new technology. Now the Corvette becomes a hybrid and thus also the fastest ever.

Chevrolet has previously hinted that the next Corvette will get an all-new powertrain.

In the latest teaser video, the “stealth” mode is revealed, which means that the car can be driven for a short distance completely silently.

Lightning fast hybrid

This turned out to be the electric mode in the new version. Namely, the new Corvette E-Ray is a hybrid that accelerates faster than the performance version Z06.

The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is not entirely unexpectedly the first hybrid Corvette and part of the name has thus been changed from Stingray to E-Ray.

Corvette celebrates birthday with hybrid drive

January 17, 2023 marks the model’s 70th anniversary and Chevrolet celebrates that by unveiling the electrified Corvette, which will also be four-wheel drive.

With the help of the battery, which has a capacity of 1.9 kWh, and drive on all four wheels, the Corvette E-Ray reaches 97 kilometers per hour (60 miles per hour) in 2.5 seconds.

That’s faster than a Corvette Z06 that does the same sprint in 2.6 seconds.

Small battery – for performance

Under the hood in the middle of the E-Ray is the same 6.2-liter V8 that sits in the regular Corvette Stingray.

It produces 502 horsepower and 637 newton meters and sends the power down the hill via an eight-speed dual clutch box.

The front wheels are driven by the electric motor, which can handle just over 70 kilometers per hour and a distance of a couple of kilometers without help from the V8.

However, the main task of the electric motor is to help increase performance. The total power in the new Corvette E-Ray is a respectable 664 horsepower.

The price tag in the US lands at 104,295 dollars, or close to 1.1 million Swedish kronor. Chevrolet announces that the car will go on sale sometime later this year.
