President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky mention incident the helicopter crashed which killed 18 people, including the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Denys Monastyrskyi, as a ‘terrible tragedy’. Ukrainian authorities ordered a detailed investigation into the incident which took place on the outskirts of Kiev.
As reported AFPWednesday (18/1/2023), Head of the National Police of Ukraine, Igor Klymenko, confirmed Monastyrskyi along with two other high-ranking officials, namely Yevhen Yenin who served as First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Yurii Lubkovych who served as State Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, died in the incident .
So far, according to the head of the Kiev Regional Military Authority Oleksiy Kuleba, at least 18 people, including three children, have died in the incident. Kuleba added that 29 other people, including 15 children, were injured in the crash.
“Today, a terrible tragedy occurred in Brovary, Kiev region. An SES (Emergency Service) helicopter crashed, and a fire broke out at the crash site. The pain cannot be expressed in words,” Zelensky wrote in a statement via social media. respond to the incident.
In a separate statement, the Prime Minister (PM) of Ukraine Denys Shmygal called the death of Monastyrskyi and two high-ranking Interior Ministry officials in the incident a ‘great loss’.
“A big loss for the government team and for the whole country. My sincere condolences to the families of all the victims,” Shmygal said in a statement via Telegram.
“I instructed (officials) to immediately form a special group to carry out a detailed investigation of all the circumstances in the tragedy,” he added.
