The unions of Reunion call to follow the national movement against the pension reform, Thursday, February 19.

Eleven trade union organizations on the island are calling for a general strike.

In Reunion, the start of the school year takes place next Monday. This strike is therefore taking place in the middle of school holidays, but it is out of the question for the unions not to join in.

To avoid any dispersion, the various organizations decided to unite and organize a single parade in Saint-Denis. No demonstration is planned in Saint-Pierre.

The procession will leave at 9 a.m. from the bottom of rue Maréchal Leclerc near the Petit Marché, to take the direction of the prefecture on Barachois.

In the streets of the capital, the demonstrators will march to say no to the extension of the retirement age to 64 years with 43 years of contribution.

The unions demand the total withdrawal of the reform, the return to a departure without discount at a decent age, a minimum pension at the level of the minimum wage for a full career, an indexation of pensions on the evolution of wages and on that of prices , or taking into account the years of study.

For trade unions, this demonstration on January 19 could be the first of a long series.

The pension reform project will be presented to the Council of Ministers on January 23 and could again be the subject of a new day of mobilization. In the meantime, it remains to be seen that it will be the extent of that of this Thursday.
