Apple unveils its new MacBook Pro and mini equipped with “revolutionary” chips

With these new components, the group promises exceptional performance for its MacBook Pro and Mac mini.

Apple announced on Tuesday two next-generation chips for its MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. Called M2 Pro and M2 Max, they promise “revolutionary performance”, according to the American group.

“Only Apple designs SoCs (system on a chip, editor’s note) like the M2 Pro and the M2 Max. In addition to offering incredible professional performance, they display unparalleled energy efficiency on the market” declares Johny Srouji, Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies from Apple.

“The M2 Pro and the M2 Max mark a spectacular advance for Apple chips” he underlines.

In its press release, Apple presents the M2 Pro as a clear improvement of its little sister M1 Pro. The chip integrates 40 billion transistors, “nearly 20% more than the M1 Pro chip, and double the M2 chip.” In practice, it enables image processing in Adobe Photoshop 40% faster than with the M1 Pro chip.

For its part, the M2 Max promises “unparalleled power and energy efficiency in the business notebook market”.

“With 96 GB of memory, the new MacBook Pro with M2 Max chip can handle projects with complex graphics impossible to run on competing systems,” says Apple.

New MacBook Pros and new Mac minis

Apple took the opportunity to announce new products in the wake of this: two new versions of MacBook Pro (14-inch and 16-inch) with each chip (M2 Pro and M2 Max) as well as two Mac minis with an M2 chip and the other with an M2 Pro chip.

In detail, three new MacBook models are marketed in a 14-inch version: the first two equipped with the M2 Pro chip with a choice of 512 GB SSD storage and 16 GB of unified memory (2399 euros) for the first. For the second, a storage capacity of 1 TB accompanied by 16 GB of unified memory (2999 euros). The third iteration, powered this time by the M2 Max chip, is equipped with 32 GB of unified memory and 1 TB SSD storage (3699 euros).

For the 16-inch versions, Apple offers two machines with the M2 Pro chip. The first with 16 GB of unified memory and 512 GB SSD storage (2999 euros) as well as an intermediate model equipped with 16 GB of unified memory and 1 TB SSD storage (3229 euros). The third version, the most expensive, embeds the M2 Max chip and displays 32 GB of unified memory under the hood for a storage capacity via SSD estimated at 1 TB (4149 euros).

As for the Mac mini, three new models are now available: the first two are equipped with the M2 chip with either 256 GB storage (699 euros) or 512 GB storage (929 euros). In fact, the entry level is therefore 100 euros cheaper than the M1 version for impressive power. The third model is equipped with the M2 Pro chip and 512 GB storage (1549 euros).
