World’s oldest woman dies in France at 118

The world’s oldest woman, 118-year-old French nun Lucile Randon, has died in her sleep at a nursing home. It is reported by AFP. She became Earth’s oldest person after the death of Japanese woman Kane Tanaka in April 2022.

“It’s a great sadness, but… it was her desire to join her beloved brother. For her, this is a liberation,” said a representative of the nursing home Sainte-Catherine-Labour in Toulon, where the nun lived.

Lucille Randon was born on February 11, 1904. In her youth, she was a governess, and then worked in a hospital. She became a nun in 1979: the woman spent 30 years in a convent in Savoy.

Lucille Randon continued to work until the age of 108. In the early 2010s, she became completely blind and was forced to use a wheelchair. Woman spokethat the reason for her longevity is the use of wine and chocolate. At the age of 116, Lucille Randon contracted the coronavirus.
