Maple Leafs Nick Robertson will have shoulder surgery and his season is over

Nick Robertson of the Toronto Maple Leafs has had shoulder surgery and his season is over, team officials announced Monday.

The 21-year-old striker is expected to be sidelined for six months.

Robertson suffered a shoulder injury from a hit by Los Angeles Kings defenseman Matt Roy in the Dec. 8 game.

Originally, there was talk of him being sidelined for six to eight weeks, the aim being to allow him to go through a rehabilitation phase without having to undergo an operation.

In 15 games with the Maple Leafs this season, Robertson has two goals and three assists. He also played for the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs’ AHL farm club, where he had two points in two games.

The Maple Leafs drafted Robertson in the second round, 53rd overall, in the 2019 Draft.
