The Linz gunman breaks his silence for the first time.
The Linz public prosecutor’s office has now specified the suspect’s statements after last Monday’s rampage in Linz. During his first interrogation with the police, the 41-year-old Iraqi stated that his wife “walked into the knife.” He didn’t want to run over two police officers either, the car “broke out” of him, a spokesman for the authorities confirmed.
He took the gun of an officer, in order to judge himself later, the man continued to answer for himself, and he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs that morning. He denied the blame. The result of a blood analysis is still pending, the APA spokesman for the public prosecutor reported on Tuesday. According to these initial statements to the police, the suspect refused to testify before the detention and legal protection judge.
Iraqis still in custody
The prosecution is investigating on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder. The State Criminal Police Office would still be hearing a witness. If the police’s final report is available, the prosecution would still have to ask itself which reports – on sanity and dangerousness – are necessary. The person who has been in custody since last Wednesday is being looked after by a process assistant.
Last Monday morning, the man stabbed his 42-year-old wife three times with a knife. The Romanian’s eleven-year-old daughter, who, according to the statement, jumped at the attacker, may have saved her mother’s life with her courageous intervention. After the attack, the Iraqi sought out the alleged rival at work and threatened him with two knives. On the subsequent rampage he is said to have seriously injured a 21-year-old policewoman and a 26-year-old policeman. Apparently, the man was only made to give up after the police fired several shots.
