The second racket of Russia Kudermetova defeated the former Ukrainian Zanevskaya at the Australian Open

Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova advanced to the second round of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.
In the first round, the 25-year-old Russian won the representative of Belgium Marina Zanevskaya with a score of 6:2, 7:6 (7:4).
Zanevskaya is ranked 80th in the WTA ranking, until 2016 she played for Ukraine. Kudermetova’s next opponent will be US representative Katie Wolynets.
Kudermetova is the ninth racket of the world and the second – of Russia. She has one WTA title to her credit. The best result of an athlete at the Grand Slam tournaments is reaching the quarterfinals of Roland Garros 2022.
Of the other Russians, Aslan Karatsev lost in the first round to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (6:7 (3:7), 5:7, 2:6), Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who held the second tournament after a seven-month break due to injury, lost to Italian Camila Giorgi (0:6, 1:6), and Ekaterina Alexandrova entered the second round, beating the Belgian Ysalin Bonaventure (6:2, 6:1).
The Australian Open will end on January 28th. The total prize fund of the tournament is more than $53.4 million.
