Successful referee training camp on Gran Canaria

Not only the professional teams, but also the referees of the Swiss Football Association want to prepare for the start of the second half of the season in the top Swiss leagues under the best possible conditions. That’s why the top referees worked on various points during seven intensive days in the training camp on Gran Canaria. At the end, they received prominent visitors.

61 referees and assistants from the Swiss Football League, the talent group from the Promotion League and the international women’s group gathered in Maspalomas under the motto “Am I professional?” the finishing touches for the second half of the season. True to the slogan, the participants were subjected to a form check of their abilities in many ways.

The organizations provided a precise plan in which areas the referees could check their professionalism. Physical training on the field, practical training at two VAR stations, theory lessons, workshops, presentations and in-depth training on various topics or media training were part of the well-timed program every day. The Italian Roberto Rosetti, the chairman of the UEFA Referees Committee, also paid a visit to the delegation over the course of two days, gave a speech and honored the international referees with the international batch for 2023. He also had intensive discussions with the top referees department.

Β«The time in Gran Canaria was used intensively by all participants to get the finishing touches for the second half of the season. Everyone could see and feel the great will, so that they would be ready in a week when it started again,” said top referee boss Dani Wermelinger, summing up the already 33rd training camp on Gran Canaria with great satisfaction. β€œWe didn’t have any injuries to report, the climatic conditions were ideal, the infrastructure was perfect, the organization was flawless. Accordingly, my conclusion is very, very positive. As an answer to the motto question “Am I professional”, we can confidently state: Yes, everyone was and is very professional.”
