Our smartphones have become indispensable in every aspect of our lives. We are using these little gadgets in our pockets as electronic mailbox, entertainment center, social media, television broadcast, photography, calculator… and many more.
However, the battery life of these devices, which we use at every hour of the day, in every field, has difficulty in using this much. Although the battery life is extended with new lithium-ion technologies, most people can’t get rid of walking around with a charger in their pocket or bag. We have compiled the recommendations and the most battery-consuming applications for Habertürk readers.
1. ADJUST THE SCREEN BRIGHTNESS
The first advice we can say is, of course, the screen brightness. If we keep the screen brightness of our phone, which we use constantly, at the highest, we will see that the battery capacity decreases rapidly. We’re sure you’ll benefit from lowering it, especially when we’re going to need a very bright screen.
You can easily adjust this setting from the screen brightness area by entering the settings menu. The new generation phone also has automatic options that make the optimization themselves.
2. ‘POWER SAVE MODE’
Using the phone in ‘Low Power Mode’, except when high performance is needed, will help conserve its power, so the battery can last much longer during the day. In addition, turning off features such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not in use will prevent your smartphone from losing power by searching for a signal in vain.
3. PHONE LOCK!
Always lock your smartphone when not in use. While you can do this with the lock button of the phones, you can also do this easily by reducing the auto-lock time from the settings menu.
This does not only benefit your battery for a long time, but also avoids the problem of accidentally calling someone in your pocket or bag.
4. BEWARE OF GREEDY PRACTICES
Applications that remain open are at the top of the list of those that consume the phone’s battery the most. These need special attention. Mobile Communication Tools and Information Technologies Business People Association (MOBISAD) has published the applications that consume the most battery. Snapchat comes first, not too surprisingly because it uses different features at the same time.
Here is the list of apps that consume the most battery in order: “Snapchat, Netflix, YouTube, Fitbit, Uber, Skype, Facebook, Airbnb, Bingo Live, Instagram, Tinder, Bumble, Whatsapp, Zoom, Booking.com, Amazon, Telegram, Grindr, Likke, Linkedin”
5. HEALTHIER CHARGING BEFORE IT’S TOTALLY DONE
A situation that most of us misunderstand… “Do not charge the phone before it is completely discharged!” This used to be true, but as technology developed and Lithium-ion batteries got stronger in the industry, it turned into a complete misconception. That’s because Lithium-ion batteries don’t feel good getting far below the 20% mark.
The golden rule is to keep your battery somewhere between 30% and 90% most of the time. Top up when it drops below 50%, but unplug before reaching 100%. Therefore, you may want to reconsider leaving it plugged in overnight.
Pushing the final charge from 80-100% can cause the lithium-ion battery to age faster.
6. REDUCE NOTIFICATIONS
Almost every app asks for permission to send you notifications. Turning off these notifications will save a lot on battery health, except for applications that you will want to see very important and get instant information, such as news channels.
These types of updates require your phone to regularly check with a company’s computers over the internet.
7. KEEP THE OPERATING SYSTEM UPDATED
Although this seems like a very simple suggestion, keeping the operating system of your smartphones up-to-date can be one of the most important battery-saving factors. There are regular updates made by the companies for battery optimization, and getting it is very important for the health of the phone.
8. REDUCE LOCATION INFORMATION
You can set location tracking for each application from your smartphone settings. While most applications want to follow you constantly, you can either turn it off completely or continue with the option that the application tracks your location only while using that application, not all the time. Bonus: Your phone will also collect less information about you, and you’ll have more control over when it happens and for your convenience.
9. BE CAREFUL OF TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCES!
Technologies are sensitive, just like our food. It’s very important to keep them cool (not cold) and dry. Extreme heat, cold or humidity can drain your battery prematurely and affect its overall lifespan.
Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or in vehicles that are in the sun, especially in summer.
10. CARRY POWERBANK
Finally, the simplest-sounding yet most effective solution. If you don’t want to waive any of the above… You can carry a spare charger, powerbank with you, so you can keep your battery full all the time.
