First in 60 Years, China’s Population Is Shrinking!

Population China declined for the first time since 1961. This was recorded as a historic change that is expected to mark the start of a long period of decline in both residents and viewing India Becomes most populous country in the world this year 2023.

As reported ReutersTuesday (17/1/2023), China’s National Bureau of Statistics announced that the country was recorded to have 1.41175 billion residents by the end of 2022. This number was recorded to decrease compared to the previous year, with 1.41260 billion residents.

The birth rate in China in 2022 was recorded at 6.77 births per 1,000 people. This figure has also decreased compared to 2021 with a birth rate of 7.52 births per 1,000 people.

The 2022 birth rate is also recorded as the lowest birth rate in Chinese history.

Then for the death rate, China reported 7.37 deaths per 1,000 people for 2022 — recorded as the highest death rate since 1976. The death rate also increased when compared to 2021 with 7.18 deaths per 1,000 people.

Most of the demographic decline is the result of China’s one-child policy between 1980 and 2015, and then the very high cost of education which means that many Chinese citizens have no more than one child or even no children at all.
