There was a lot of controversy about the reception location in Albergen last year. The cabinet passed the municipality of Tubbergen, which includes Albergen, at the reception location in the village. Normally, the municipality must approve a new zoning plan for the building, but this time the cabinet took that decision itself. The ministers did this with a view to the reception crisis.
It led to many protests against the arrival of the reception center in the village, with the result that some plans were scaled down. Initially, for example, residential units would be added to the site, but that plan was scrapped. The number of three hundred status holders and asylum seekers was also reduced to 150.
The building has been vacant for months since then Tubantia. The reason for this lies in the renovation that COA wants to carry out. The hotel used to be able to house about eighty residents and needs a thorough overhaul to accommodate more people.
“The municipality must issue a permit for these activities. And that permit has not yet been applied for,” said Tubberg alderman Ursula Bekhuis to the newspaper. The COA is still waiting for a nitrogen calculation, among other things. “A construction drawing and a spatial substantiation must also be provided,” says a spokesperson for the municipality in conversation with Tubantia.
It is therefore not clear when asylum seekers and status holders will come to the former hotel in Albergen. “It must be crazy if no refugees are accommodated in Albergen this year,” concludes a COA spokesperson.
