The game has now broken the record for the longest development time ever.
To say that “Beyond Good & Evil 2” has had a difficult and long development period is a real understatement. The game is a 3D platform game and is developed by the classic game company Ubisoft. The crux is that it has been in development for over 15 years now.
2008 was the first time the game was announced, it had already been in development for a year. Then “Beyond Good & Evil 2” took a little sabbatical from the limelight, lasting eight years and finally showing up at E3 2016 with a magnificent trailer.
Since then, there have been bits and pieces of new information about the game, but nothing spectacular. Recently, it has mostly seemed that development has stopped completely.
In 2020, Michel Ancel, who was the mastermind behind the original game, left Ubisoft, and since then it has been quiet. It is speculated that the game has been shelved, forgotten and will never see the light of day again.
However, Ubisoft contradicts these speculations and comments that development around the game is still active.
Ubisoft recently canceled three unannounced games to save money, and four other games last summer.
“Beyond Good & Evil 2” has now 15 years behind it, surpassing “Duke Nukem Forever’s” infamous development time of 14 years. “Beyond Good & Evil 2” is now reportedly the game with the longest development ever.
Congratulations on the new record Ubisoft!
