Rumor: Samsung prevents folding edge on Galaxy Z Fold5 with water drop shape – Tablets and phones – News

In the successor to the current Z Fold4 smartphone, Samsung would prevent the folding edge in the foldable screen by having the screen make a water drop shape when folded. Other foldable smartphones have had this technology for some time.

With the technology, the screen does not make a tight fold when folded, but is convex in the hinge. This prevents a folding edge from remaining visible when unfolding. That technology has been in the Motorola razr phones for years and folding models from other brands are already using it, but Samsung has stuck to the tight fold until now. That will change with the upcoming model, writes Naver.

Samsung has had a patent for years on a technique for a folding screen with a water drop shape when folded, but so far all Fold and Flip models from the manufacturer have a tightly folded screen. As a result, Samsung models have a more visible folding edge than foldable smartphones from other brands.

It is unknown if only the Z Fold5 will get this technique or if the Z Flip5 will also use folding in a water drop shape; the article says nothing about that. Naver is a well-known South Korean site and has been right about Samsung rumors before.
