The Castilla y León Ministry of Health has announced a more active campaign to increase the number of people over the age of sixty with the fourth dose of the covid vaccine, which, although the data is ten points better than the national figure, is still below previous doses, according to counselor Alejandro Vázquez. In the province of Segovia, the population aged 60 and over who is susceptible to receiving this fourth pandemic dose in the Community amounts to 45,593 people.
When the vaccination of the fourth dose began on September 26, the forecasts were to reach almost 800,000 throughout the Community, and by January 9 that reinforcement campaign had reached 598,979 people, according to data from the Junta portal collected by the EFE agency.
The counselor recalled that all vaccination points in Community health centers are open, and explained that for those under 60 that fourth dose; that is, the second booster is voluntary but they can also be vaccinated at authorized centers.
Regarding the possibility of convening the Community’s committee of experts for the covid, as Andalusia has done, given the advance of the coronavirus in China, Vázquez has argued that the low data that Castilla y León has does not make it necessary
In this sense, the latest data published last Friday, the 13th, show that Castilla y León registered 13 deaths from Covid-19 in Community hospitals since Tuesday of last week while new infections stood at 665, according to the information collected by the Ical Agency. The thirteen deaths registered in the last three days contrast with the 28 recorded between the week of January 3-10. As for the positives, 821 had been recorded in that period, so the trend is upward.
Segovia had been, in this period from Tuesday the 10th to Friday the 13th, the only province where no deaths from covid had been registered.
Most of the new deaths in Community hospitals occurred in Palencia, with three deaths, followed by Burgos, Valladolid and Zamora, with two deaths in each province. For their part, the Ávila, León, Salamanca Soria complexes registered one death, according to data published by the Ministry.
