Georgian actor, singer, director and public worker Vakhtangs Kikabidze passed away at the age of 84, Georgian TV channel “Mtavari arhi” reports on Sunday.
Kikabidze was born in Tbilisi in 1938. He worked in the Tbilisi Philharmonic, but in the 60s he started filming in cinema. He gained wide recognition with his role in the 1969 film “Neskumsti!” by director Georgis Daneli. He also starred in other tapes of this director – “Pavisam pozudis” and Mimino”.
In total, Kikabidze starred in more than 20 films. His last role was in the Ukrainian TV series “Svati-7”.
Songs performed by Kikabidze, also in Russian, were also popular. Kikabidze led the popular ensemble “Orero”, worked as a screenwriter and director.
In 2008, he was awarded the Order of Friendship of Russia, but after a month he refused it due to the war waged by Russia against Georgia.
In recent years, he has made several appearances in Ukraine, expressing his support for it and condemning Russia’s actions.
In 2020, he was elected to the Georgian Parliament from the list of the United National Movement of ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.
