During the Claude Sufrin meeting (January 14 and 15, 2023), the members of the Longvilliers Club swimming club thanked their president, Robert Marajo for his dedication. For years he has worked for the success of the club and the development of discipline and Martinican youth.

Robert Marajo doesn’t like to talk about himself too much. In many photos of his club and competitions, it is the swimmers who take center stage.
And yet, swimming in Martinique might never have reached the level of excellence it enjoys today without the efforts of Robert Marajo.
The swimmers of the Longvilliers Club, the largest club in Martinique, are systematically on the podiums of local and regional competitions.
It all started in 1977, when the newspaper Sport Plus was born. At the time, Robert Marajo was a young physics professor. To help the publication of this bi-monthly which has been distributed for 35 years, he becomes administrator, guarantor of accounts and sales manager.
During the cycling tour Sport Plus becomes a daily routine. This is his first step into the world of volunteering.
The cycling committee asks him to coordinate the Tour. Robert Marajo flies to France to take inspiration from the Tour de France.
In a July 2011 Antilla article, Robert Marajo is described as “tireless worker, serious and motivated volunteer”. When he decides to do something, it has to be in the rules of the art.
It was through the talent of his daughter Aude that he discovered swimming. He then begins to get involved in the discipline. He becomes club president. He created “the Elite group” to raise the level of practice of his best swimmers.
We do not count the time we devote to our licensees. And yet we are volunteers.

He is interested in all facets of swimming. Artistic swimming had its annual gala. Open water had its Lyan-NAJ’Caribbean.
Christophe Maleau, young champion from Martinique, was able to count on the support of Roberto Marajo to achieve his exploits.
Robert gave his letters of nobility to the idea of volunteering.
Excerpt from the speech in his honor (Le Longvilliers Club)
His seriousness convinced the EDF company to become and remain a loyal partner in the Longvilliers Club projects.
