Latvian luge riders win European gold in the team relay

Latvian luge riders won awards in all five disciplines at the European Championship in Sigulda, winning one gold, two silver and three bronze medals. Last week, at the World Cup stage held in Sigulda, the home team won four out of five competitions.

The Latvian quartet covered the home track in two minutes and 13.143 seconds. After the Latvians, only the German team started, which became the leader after Anna Berreiter’s trip, but Max Langenhan’s mistake after the start prevented the Germans from beating the home team.

Silver medalists Germany lost 0.367 seconds, while bronze medalists Italy were 0.774 seconds slower. Ukraine lost almost a second to the top three, followed by Slovakia and China.

Six of the nine participants finished – the Austrian duo fell, while Poland and the USA were disqualified for not touching the relay plate.

In the relay’s overall standings after three competitions, Latvia has become the leader with 285 points, while Germany is in second position with 270 points, while Italy is in third place with 190 points.
