New mode and full trailer for the season – Riot Games responded to fan complaints about the state and development of League of Legends

Riot Games has released a message to fans explaining some of the decisions it has made, as well as plans for the development of League of Legends. On behalf of the studio, executive producer Jeremy Brightmoon Lee and head of the development studio LoL, Teamfight Tactics and Wild Rift Andrei van Roon spoke on behalf of the studio.

Representatives of Riot Games admitted that in 2022 the studio had little communication with the players. Because of this, communication with fans has suffered: the community has ceased to understand where the development of League of Legends is heading, as well as what plans the authors of the game are building. The developers promised to share more often not only news about successes, but also about emerging problems in order to avoid misunderstandings in the future.

The authors of LoL called internal changes the cause of the main problems: many employees left the studio, which is why several teams had to be built from scratch at once. This was reflected not only in the game itself: for example, the trailer for the 2023 season, massively criticized fans, came out in this form precisely because of Riot Games internal problems – it was originally planned in the spirit of past videos with epic scenes and a demonstration of champions. The start of next year’s competitive season should begin with a high-quality story trailer familiar to players.

The authors of LoL have confirmed that the game will receive record funding in 2023. The developers plan to use the money to improve the technical component of the game, anti-cheat, servers and other elements. In addition, representatives of Riot Games announced a new mode that could appear in League of Legends this summer, in which four random pairs of players will compete against each other on a new map.

The thirteenth ranked season started in League of Legends on January 11th. Before that, the developers released a trailer for the update, but fans criticized video and accused Riot Games of “killing” the game. After that the studio apologized in front of the fans.
