The figure includes 5,503 deaths from respiratory failure caused by the coronavirus and another 54,435 caused by other ailments combined with covid-19. The National Health Commission of that country said that these deaths occurred in hospitals, which leaves open the possibility that more deaths have occurred in private homes.
