(Real Sociedad – Athletic Club 3–1) Alexander Sørloth (27) does not stop scoring in Spain and on Saturday became the second Norwegian to score in four straight games in La Liga.
Trønder took just 25 minutes to give Real Sociedad 1-0 in the Basque derby against Athletic. A nice reception in a close duel with two Athletic defences, a little pirouette, and suddenly the lead was a fact.
With that, Sørloth signs his name into a small piece of Norwegian La Liga history. Sørloth’s fourth goal in the last four games means that the 27-year-old matches John Carew’s streak.
The score was also Sørloth’s seventh this season. Carew is the only Norwegian who has managed to pass the double-digit number of La Liga goals, when he scored 11 goals for Valencia in the 2000/01 season. Now there are only four goals left for that list to include two Norwegians.
12 minutes later, Takefusa Kubo made it 2-0 for La Real, before Oihan Sancet reduced the deficit for Athletic just before the break.
Early in the second half, Sørloth was left with an injury after being stepped on and eventually had to throw in the towel. Fortunately, the 27-year-old did not appear to be too affected as he was applauded off the field by the home fans.
Substitute Mikel Oyarzabal had the honor of making it 3–1 from the penalty spot.
Real Sociedad are in third place in La Liga, three points behind Real Madrid but with one game more played than Los Blancos.
