FC Bayern Munich delivers an eight-goal spectacle in the Bundesliga dress rehearsal against RB Salzburg

While RB Salzburg was still in the early stages of preparation, FCB – who had to release 17 players for the World Cup – were on the last moves before competitive matches could resume. The training advantage of Munich was clearly noticeable at the beginning.

In the ninth minute, Leroy Sané gave FCB the lead on Bayern Campus with a wonderful left-footed shot into the top left corner. RB keeper Philipp Köhn was still there, but could not prevent the impact (9th).

A little later that Köhn then fished a long-range shot from Joshua Kimmich from the corner (12th) and was happy about the equalizer by Sekou Koita five minutes later. The striker from Mali ran alone towards Sven Ulreich after a fine interface pass from his own half – and poor division of space between Dayot Upamecano and Benjamin Pavard. The attacker kept a cool head and pushed the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 1-1 (17′).

UPDATE YESTERDAY AT 4:41 PM

Unimpressed by the equalizer with the first shot on goal, FC Bayern continued with lively attacking football: Sané first failed with a fine flick to Köhn (25th) and a short time later after a pass from Serge Gnabry with another left-footed shot (30th). The active Jamal Musiala was also unable to put the ball in the goal and narrowly missed the far corner (31st). When Sané – after fine preliminary work from Musiala – again missed the lead from a promising position, the flattering half-time score of 1-1 was sealed.

With the exception of keeper Köhn, Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle replaced the entire team during the break – and the new staff should start straight away. Substitute Amankwah Forson was denied by a brilliant Ulreich from a good position, but the subsequent corner threw in the ball. First a header landed on the crossbar, then Ulreich parried the first follow-up shot. The keeper was powerless when Karim Konaté scored the second shot (50′). Only four minutes later, Noah Okafor welded the ball uncompromisingly from 20 meters into the upper left corner of the goal – 3:1 for Salzburg (54th).

In the 63rd minute, Julian Nagelsmann – apart from Kimmich – also replaced the entire team. And here, too, the “second team” should deliver directly. The only 17-year-old Arijon Ibrahimovic marked the connection with a full right-footed shot (69th), after he had hit the post minutes earlier (65th). Just two minutes later, Kingsley Coman scored a flat goal in the bottom right corner to make it 3:3 (71′) after assisting Mathys Tel.

In the final minutes, events came to a head again: both Tel (82′) and Marcel Sabitzer (84′) despaired of the outstanding Köhn, before the Frenchman dropped Samson Baidoo and Oumar Solet in the narrowest of spaces two minutes before the end and sent them powerfully into the near corner to make it 4:3 (88th). However, the jubilation was short-lived as Okafor scored to make it 4-4 just a minute later (89′) after a long ball.

In the final second, substitute youngster Yusuf Kabadayi missed the late win with his header from five meters because Köhn crowned his performance with another world-class save (90+2).

The voices:

Julian Nagelsmann (FC Bayern coach): “The first 20 minutes were good, then it was weak until the break. The first quarter of an hour after the break was also weak. The substitutes did very well and put a lot of energy into it. It was good for a friendly, we can draw some conclusions from that Of course we were a bit tired after the training camp, but the tank will be full again on Friday.”

Jamal Musiala (FC Bayern): “It was about getting into the rhythm of the game after a tough training camp. Of course we wanted to win. We still worked well, but we can do better. The atmosphere in the team is good. We’re working hard and we’re looking forward to the next Friday.”

The tweet about the game:

The 32-year-old Daley Blind came to Munich from Ajax Amsterdam on a free transfer as a result of the injury situation in the Bayern defense. In the friendly against RB Leipzig, the 99-time national player for the Netherlands celebrated his debut for the record champions.

That was noticeable: Tel, Ibrahimovic and Kabadayi recommend themselves

While RB made ten changes at half-time, Nagelsmann replaced the entire team after 63 minutes – with the exception of Kimmich. The “second suit” fit both the Austrians and the Bavarians. On the side of the record champions, two players in particular stood out after the changes – and not just because of their goals. The only 17-year-old Ibrahimovic presented himself as a goal threat, but also worked well at the back. Tel conjured up an excellent performance in the 30-minute game and convinced with excellent technique, an eye for the teammates and speed. The result: a goal and an assist. Yusuf Kabadayi also knew how to please, but missed the winning goal with the last action of the game.

The stats: 8

Eight goals in 90 minutes – FCB’s first and only friendly during the winter break was nothing short of a spectacle. In view of the chances here and there, the number of hits could have been in the double digits.
