Shakira’s new song, in which she talks about her husband Gerard Pique’s betrayal of her, has set records for viewership on YouTube.
The video for the song, “Out of Your League”, was viewed more than 63 million times in 24 hours, making it the most viewed Latin song of that time period.
Shakira, 45, separated from football star, former Barcelona player Gerard Pique, 35, last year, after a relationship that lasted more than 10 years, during which they had two children.
The BBC has contacted Gerard Pique for comment.
Shakira collaborated for the first time with Argentine music producer DJ Bizarab, working on the new four-minute song.
Shakira joined a group of Latin singers who broke records on YouTube, such as Jay Balvin, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.
This is not Shakira’s first song about her separation from Pique, and she sang “Monotonia” three months ago, but it was a sad song more than a desire for revenge.
In this song, Shakira spoke about Pique’s alleged new partner, who was said to be 23 years old.
Shakira says that she is “twice as old as 22”, and compares the relationship to someone who exchanges a Ferrari for a Twingo (Renault) and a Rolex for a Casio.
The Colombian singer points out that the Spanish authorities are hunting her for allegedly evading the payment of income tax of 14.5 million euros.
And she seems to say that Pique left her in the midst of all these events.
She criticized his physical exercise style, saying, “A lot of time in the club, but your brain needs a little work, too.”
Pique did not respond to Shakira’s song, but he published information about his new project: “The King’s League.”
Both Pique and Shakira issued a statement upon their separation in June last year, saying they were focused on sharing responsibility for custody of children Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.
