French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday, January 14, 2023, that the execution of the British-Iranian citizen, Ali Reza Akbari, is an ugly and brutal act.
Macron added that he was in solidarity with Britain, which condemned the execution, which defied appeals from London and Washington for the release of Akbari, 61, after he was executed.
He was sentenced to death for spying for Britain.
In an audio recording supposedly of Akbari, broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC Persian) on Wednesday 11/01/2023, Akbari said that he confessed to crimes he did not commit after being subjected to severe torture.
